Body-flow Yoga Sequence

The Body-flow Yoga Sequence is a part of the Prasara Yoga series of poses. Here you do not hold steady for long, but just allow the momentum to take your body in circular motions. This is an acrobatic sequence and you should attempt to do it only if you are young and agile, as there is always the risk of you spraining your neck and spine. So the old and infirm can skip this sequence.



You start this sequence by sitting on your buttocks on a mat. Move your arms behind your back. Lower your shoulders to the mat and raise your legs simultaneously. Let your body roll in a free-flowing circular trajectory. Take care not to bang your head on the mat as you do this.



This motion is more like child’s-play, but is quite difficult for adults to do. Kids with their naturally supple bodies do indulge in this kind of frolic when they play, especially on the bed. But for an adult to do it, requires co-ordination, caution and practice. When you roll your body this way, you will need to use your hands to propel you in doing this circular movement.



This sequence involves twisting and turning your body in addition to balancing it all through the sequence. The essence is that you do not pause at any step, and one step merges into the other as you roll on.



Among the many benefits of this sequence are that you compress your abdominal organs and stimulate the secretion of digestive juices. Your liver secretes more bile improving your digestion and your pancreas secretes more insulin, helping to regulate your blood sugar.



You brain and face also receive an increased supply of blood. Your overall agility too improves when you do the Body-flow Yoga Sequence
